Jón Einarsson

Jón Einarsson spends his days deep underground, mining coal in the geothermally active Westfjords of Iceland, clad in his wool sweater and headlamp. He is acutely aware that the mine's precarious future directly impacts his children's prospects, and he meticulously checks payroll envelopes for errors, thanks to a fine-tuned sense of weight honed by years of labor. This meticulousness and the quotidian rhythm of his routine manifest in his art, constrained by necessity to be created on uneven surfaces, much like the rocky terrain of his family’s land.
